IVAN CAELLES COLOMÉS
“I come from a long line of mountain olive growers and oil producers from Vall de Barcedana in Pallars Jussà County. My dream is to recover and promote the native varieties of our region, extract their organoleptic qualities and contribute added value to the landscape while treating the natural world with passion and respect.”

A TRIBUTE TO OUR ANCESTORS
Many of the olive trees I cultivate have been here for centuries. Based on their tall, thick trunks, some of them are more than 300 years old.
I would love to be able to talk to the people who planted them, to ask why they chose that particular variety and how they looked after them. It thrills me to think that these trees have survived to the present day and continue to bear fruit of exceptional quality due to the hard work and effort of those people.
ERM aims to prevent the centuries-old olive trees and native Pallars olive varieties of from fading into obscurity and to recover those that have been lost so that they provide us with fruit for many years to come. To achieve this, we’re working in tandem with the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) to identify the region’s olive varieties, categorize them, study their characteristics and grow them again. A project financed by Tremp City Council’s and it’s program Al teu gust thanks to the support of the SOC‘s “Treball a les 7 comarques” program and in accordance with the priorities established with the Pallars Oil Producers Association.
The research is proving to be extremely interesting and fruitful. I think it’s an excellent way to honour our ancestors, our region and the beautiful job of working the land.
A SOCIAL PROJECT FOR SOLIDARITY
We want ERM to provide an impetus for the region. It’s a small project that’s striving to become a great one without forgetting its basic mission: respect for the environment and the landscape; a passion for rural life; and the pursuit of excellence.
To produce and package our olive oil, we work with Olivera, a cooperative based on social integration that employs disadvantaged people, who play an active part throughout the production process. We believe that work is a vital and emotional experience.
Our wooden cases are made at the Work Reintegration Initiative Centre (CIRE), a public sector company that forms part of the Ministry of Justice and provides training and employment to give ex-convicts a second chance. This philosophy mirrors our own, given that ERM aims to offer a second chance to trees and fields that are often left abandoned, uncultivated and uncared for.
CERTIFICATIONS AND SEALS
ERM is a member of the Pallars Association of Olive Oil Producers, which unites all of the region’s producers in a commitment to good practice and to highlighting the value of our region and products.
We are also part of the Catalan Government’s Buy Local system.
